Frequently Asked Questions

Are you accepting new patients?

Yes. Decatur Family Dentistry welcomes new adult and child patients. You can request an appointment online or contact our office directly to get started.

How do I request an appointment?

You can submit an appointment request through our website or call our office. Online requests are not confirmed appointments. A member of our team will follow up with you to complete scheduling.

What should a new patient expect before their first visit?

New patients can complete our digital paperwork before their visit. A member of our team will also contact you personally to help complete the new-patient process and answer any questions before your appointment.

Do you accept dental insurance?

Decatur Family Dentistry is an out-of-network practice, but we file most dental insurance claims as a courtesy to our patients. We do not accept Medicaid. Contact our office if you have questions about your specific benefits.

Do you offer financing options?

Yes. Financing options are available for qualifying treatment. Our team can explain the available options and help you determine what may work best for your treatment plan.

Do you see dental emergencies?

Yes. Decatur Family Dentistry provides emergency dental care. If you are experiencing a dental emergency, contact our office as soon as possible so our team can discuss what is happening and help determine the next step.

What dental services do you provide?

We provide preventive, family, restorative, cosmetic, and emergency dental care for adults and children. Services include routine exams and cleanings, fillings, crowns and bridges, same-day crowns, dentures, dental implants, teeth whitening, veneers, clear aligners, and other general dental treatments.

Are there treatments that you refer to another provider?

Yes. Some treatments are referred to specialists when appropriate. These include molar root canals, wisdom-tooth extractions, and traditional orthodontic braces. Our dentists will discuss referrals with you when specialized care is recommended.

Why do I need dental X-rays?

Dental X-rays allow our team to see areas of your teeth and surrounding structures that cannot be evaluated during a visual exam alone. They can help identify problems and provide information needed to plan appropriate dental care.

How can I help prevent cavities?

Regular brushing and flossing, limiting frequent sugary foods and drinks, and keeping up with routine dental exams and professional cleanings can all help reduce the risk of tooth decay.

How often should I floss my teeth?

Most patients should clean between their teeth every day. Floss or another interdental cleaning method can help remove plaque and food from areas a toothbrush may not reach.

How often should I visit the dentist?

Your recommended schedule depends on your individual oral health needs. Many patients are seen regularly for preventive exams and cleanings, while others may benefit from more frequent visits. Your dentist and hygiene team can recommend the schedule that is appropriate for you.
